Best selling author Tom Clancy dies at age 66

(Baltimore, MD)  --  Best-selling author Tom Clancy is dead at the age of 66.  He will be best remembered for his military-themed books, which were then turned into Hollywood blockbusters.  "The Hunt for Red October," "Patriot Games" and "The Sum of All Fears" were all hits on the silver screen.  His publisher confirms he died last night in a Baltimore-area hospital.  Clancy's name was also used on a handful of long-running video game franchises, such as "Rainbow Six," "Ghost Recon" and "Splinter Cell."

Clancy was also part owner of Major League Baseball's Baltimore Orioles.  He also had brief dealings with the National Football League.  Clancy reached an agreement in the late 1990s to buy the Minnesota Vikings, but ultimately had to abandon the deal due to a costly divorce.
